Apple’s affordable Vision Pro alternative might still cost over $1,500

The latest report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple is working on a more affordable alternative to the Apple Vision Pro. This alternative could cost between 1,500to2,500, significantly lower than the $3,500 price tag of the Vision Pro. To achieve this lower price point, Apple is considering hardware reductions.

Unlike the original Vision Pro, which features a Mac-grade Apple Silicon chip, the more affordable alternative is said to be based on an iPhone chip. It is also rumored to lack the EyeSight feature, which requires an additional display to render the digital eyes of users. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that Apple may have scrapped plans for the affordable Vision Pro.

The primary screen of the affordable alternative is expected to offer a slightly lower resolution, and Apple may include fewer sensors, resulting in a difference in the overall user experience compared to the Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro is set to go on sale in the US in 2024 with a retail price of $3,500. It is one of the most expensive consumer VR products on the market. Apple is reportedly developing a second-generation Vision Pro that will be more compact and lighter to enhance the user experience.

Currently, Meta dominates the consumer VR market with its Oculus lineup of headsets. Even Meta's most expensive product, the Meta Quest Pro, priced at $999, is significantly cheaper than Apple's upcoming VR headset.
